Williamson County Population Growth

The Austin Statesman breathlessly reported that Williamson County is among the top 5 in mirgration rates for 2016. The Census Bureau reported today that the net population growth for Williamson County for 2016 was 20,659 people. That brings the county's total estimated population to 528,718.

Let's look at that from a historical perspective. Here is the population and growth rate for the last 10 years for Williamson County.

The county growth rate has been pretty constant at 4.21% for the last 10 years. Even though city and county politicans like to use the population growth as an excuse to grow their budgets in excess of 10% per year, the data shows a consistent growth rate that is far below local budget growth rates.
