City Council FY-16 Discretionary Fund Grows to $1,650,000

At the city council workshop yesterday, the Finance Director informed the council that as of the end of fiscal year 2016, $1,650,000 was available in the council's "slush fund" awaiting decisions on disbursement.

The city staff will have recommendations which they will present to the General Government and Finance Advisory Board near the end of March, after which the recommendations for use will be presented to the council for approval.

Any citizens that want to provide input should attend the GGAF meeting and make their recommendations, since, by the time the recommendations reach the regular city council meeting, it is too late to effect changes.

A fiscally responsible council would spend the "slush fund" on one-time purchases such as:

1. Fully fund the cemetery maintenance fund
2. Reduce the property tax for FY-2018
3. Avoid the issuance of smaller, short-term bonds

Remember this table!

The city should fund the first four items for $1,530,000, avoid the bond issuance costs and still have $120,000 left over.

Let your city staff and council know your recommendations for spending the council's "slush fund".
